STREAMS
Participants are invited to bring along their own ideas and projects to this hackathon where they will receive at-elbow support from our team of facilitators. Hack activities will be broadly 'streamed' with breakout spaces for those wishing to initiate and looking for support in using this technology with the following areas of focus:
- Data Entry & UI Design
- Analytics
- Interoperability: data validation & verification
There will also be a space for those who haven't got a hack project in mind but would like to experiment with using the Terminology Server in a prepared context with resources and further support. All hack teams will be invited to work on their own projects and can request a hack space for cross-team collaboration.
COMMON USE CASES OF THE TERMINOLOGY SERVER
Authoring, Maintenance and Distribution
- I want to make national content readily available by the FHIR APIs and Syndication Service
- I want to author and maintain CodeSystems, Value Sets and Concept Maps
- I want to keep up to date with national CodeSystems and maintain local content
- I want to collaborate with the National Service or other HealthCare organisations to develop and publish of content for others to use
- I want to readily adopt SNOMED CT and keep up to date with national releases, but I don’t want to have to understand RF2
Smart Data Entry and Performant Run Time Use
- I want to support performant smart search of SNOMED CT or other CodeSystems in my clinical information system
- I want to support advanced use of SNOMED CT for decision support, subsumption etc
Information Modelling and Specification Development
- I want to bind terminology and value to sets to data models and specifications
- I want to validate the terminology content against the specifications
- I want to validate that the FHIR resources are compliant
Interoperability/Electronic Health Records/ Secure Messaging
- I want to validate or translate content
- I want to validate that FHIR profiles are compliant
Analytics
- I want to use terminology in advanced way in my analytics queries- subsumption
- I want to translate content on load or on demand as part of my analytics service.
AIMS
In this Hackathon, we aim to get people engaged with and understand how terminology servers can be used to support the development of applications and achieve their objectives. We will hack different ways of using the content of the terminology server to develop value sets and data forms to develop ideas and new ways of using these data for patient care, quality improvement, commissioning and research. We will use SNOMED Expression Constraint Language to develop data subsets and hack ways of connecting data using different terminologies and FHIR resources.
This event is also being held to support the creation of a community of interested people who will help drive adoption and usage of terminology servers based on real-world needs.
AGENDA
We will kick off this event with an introduction to the NHS Digital Terminology Server , visions for its use and a recap of some of the lessons from our learnathon. We will then offer som more in-depth learning and kick off a series of Let's Build projects which will be offered to participants alongside the opportunity to work independedntly in the breakout spaces to develop projects. There will be facilitator areas to support all types of development throughout the two days.
On Day 2, the hack itself will end around 3pm in preparation for the Post-Hack Presentation session from 3.30, during which hack teams will be invited to present and demonstrate the projects they have been wrking on to a wqider audience.
PREPARATION
In keeping with INTEROPen values, all interested parties are invited to take part in planning calls which take place every Tuesday at 8.00 am. Zoom details are available in the dedicated Terminology Server Learnathon & Hackathon forum on Ryver - INTEROPen's collaboration platform**
These planning calls aim to set out the scope and agenda for the hackathon, and to provide participants with the information to commence their architectural plans.
