Talk on INTERPRETING FOR THE PROBATION SERVICE by lawyer - linguist Sue Leschen
This session led by lawyer- linguist Sue Leschen will be useful for all colleagues currently interpreting for the Probation Service or considering doing so.There are certainly many work opportunities for legal interpreters in this field.
The session will include inter alia information about:
- The role of the Probation Officer within the Criminal Justice System; protecting the public, assisting offenders to reduce their offending
- Venues where Probation Officers work: courts, prisons, hostels, offenders' homes, community service schemes
- Preparation of Pre - Sentence reports based on (interpreted) risk assessment interviews with offenders
- Interpreting for clients of the Probation Service: detained prisoners, prisoners on licence in the community
- Assisting offenders to access support services: accommodation, mental health, employment, training
