Event description
Join Illustration and textile artist Beeny Harwood-Purkiss for an afternoon of exploring and reconstruct the patterns found in nature.

About this event

Join Illustration and textile artist Beeny Harwood-Purkiss at Wysing for an afternoon of exploring and reconstructing the patterns found in Nature. To begin, there will be a brief introduction to observational drawing where we will look at recreating the rhythms, figures and colours we find in our environment onto the page. Following this, we will then work to reshape our observational drawings into an illustrated pattern using techniques inspired by artists such as William Morris from the Arts and Crafts movement.

Safety notes: The workshop will be held partially outdoors in open air, and partially in our Window Room, which is large enough for 6 people to socially distance and has plenty of open windows for ventilation. Social distancing and mask wearing will still be in place for indoor activities. Please do not attend if you have symptoms of coronavirus or think you have been in contact with someone with coronavirus. If you cancel for this reason, your booking fee will be refunded.

Materials: All materials are provided.

Format: One half day workshop.

Lunch: We’re sorry we don’t have a café on site, so please bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be available all day.

Dates:

Friday 16 July 1pm-5pm

Fees: £65

Tutor Biography:

Currently a Studio Artist at Wysing, Beeny's practice is social engaged drawing parallels between today's issues of climes, garment workers rights and the arts and craft movement of the 19th century. A practising artist facilitator with experience bringing together audiences in art and design workshops, Beeny has worked with Kettle’s Yard, Amnesty International, Saturday Art Club, Cambridge School of Art and the NHS.

Beeny has a cross-disciplinary practice starting art school in the North East at the age of 16 and she spent 2 years studying fashion and textiles before she attended Cambridge School of Art and completed a BA in Illustration and Animation. It was there that she very clearly began to work with the patterns of the natural environment looking specifically at rhythm, movement and colour in her animated works. Currently, Beeny is working on a commission for Common Ground Norwich and Norfolk Festival which has given the artist opportunity to draw parallels between us, our environment and climate change as well as the effects of the clothing industry socially and ecologically.
