In this Public Health Voices webinar, our expert panel will explore the issue of intersectionality and gendered approaches to Inclusion Health research and services.

Inclusion health is an approach to addressing the inequities faced by people who are socially excluded, and who typically experience multiple overlapping risk factors for poor health, such as poverty, violence and complex trauma.

Structural violence disproportionately impacts women, who have higher levels of experience of poverty and personal violence. Join us as we explore why intersectional approaches are needed to understand how gender identity shapes the experiences and barriers women encounter in access to services.

Biographies

Binta Sultan

Binta Is a Consultant in Inclusion Health, the first in the NHS, currently based at Mortimer Market Centre and is the Inclusion Health lead within the trust, CNWL, where she leads peer-centred outreach programmes of work for Inclusion Health populations. Binta is Chair of the National Clinical Network of Sexual Assault and Abuse Services at NHS England and Clinical Lead for Hepatitis C in Health Inequalities and Inclusion Health, Transformation Partners In Healthcare, Royal Free NHS Trust. Binta is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Health at UCL, where she focuses on co-production and mixed methods research in inclusion health. Binta is one of the founding members of the Women's Inclusion Health Collective.

Grace Sumner

Grace works specifically in women's homeless health partially inspired by her own experiences of homelessness and sex work. Grace was the former national lead for homeless and street based sex workers at National Ugly Mugs, and strategic co-ordinator for services working with female offenders. Grace set up the UK's first sexual violence outreach service for homeless women and sex workers. Grace used to be a local Rape Crisis Trustee because she was angry that she didn't see women like her. Grace is the lead and one of the founding members of the Women's Inclusion Health Collective, which was started to address the gaps in services, data, commissioning and ignored needs of women in Inclusion health groups.

Kate Luxion

Kate Luxion is a public health professional, social scientist, and conceptual artist who works within the space of sexual and reproductive health. Their research focuses on LGBTQ+ reproduction and parenthood, emphasising interdisciplinarity and the importance of biopsychosocial approaches in bringing about more inclusive health systems.
