We are excited to invite you to join us as we deploy oysters and carry out surveys at Tyninghame!
We are planning to deploy oysters on strings and carry out a survivability survey on the shore to provide us with some baseline information. No prior knowledge is needed and all training for the session will be provided.
Where
The Restoration Forth team will meet you at the Tyninghame Beach car park (what3words///instant.repsonses.upwardly) at 8:30am. There will then be a 20-minute walk to where we will be carrying out our activites - stringing oysters, deploying the oysters and carrying out surveys. We anticipate being back in the car park by 12:30pm.
Important Information
Please wear warm, waterproof clothing as we will be outside for the duration of the activity. Wellies are a necessity as we will be in ankle deep water. Please note that there are no toilet facilities available at Tyninghame Beach. It is advised that you bring some water and any medication you might need.
This event is suitable for those aged 18 and over and is not recommended for anyone with a shellfish allergy.
Who we are
Restoration Forth is a major marine restoration programme working with communities to restore seagrass habitats and European flat oyster populations in the Firth of Forth. Our goal is to inspire and give agency to community members from around the Forth to participate in and lead on restoration activities in the marine environment. Restoration Forth is managed by WWF Scotland but is a partnership of scientific institutions, environmental charities, and community hubs. The current phase of Restoration Forth is made possible by funding from Sky and the Cinven Foundation; the project is supported by the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund, managed by NatureScot.
