INTO THE WOODS

Into the Woods: Forest Craft and Drawing Weekend

Join London Drawing Group and Emma Jude this September as we step out of our normal zones of London comfort and head deep into the woods and out into the hilly vales of the Chilterns!

A one-of-a-kind drawing and woodland craft retreat, this is the creative’s alternative to the summer festival, with three days of communal, creative living in idyllic National Trust surroundings and a cocophony of craft, drawing, yoga and home cooked food to boot! With very little phone signal in the area students can also choose to tech-detox for the weekend, getting back to who we are when we are surrounded by nature and creativity and NOT our smart-phones!

From Friday to Sunday evening, students will be treated to a huge variety of creative workshops and exposed to new techniques, as well as the opportunity to get back to Nature with daily excursions into the wilds of the ancient landscape of the Chilterns through walks, sketching and creative bushcraft!

Workshops will include lessons in basic book-binding to create their own sketchbook for the course, as well as instructions on unlocking the secrets of making your own materials from nature, such as oak gall ink, and natural paints, carving your own pens, and forest found-object still life’s, as well as having the opportunity to draw under the guidance of LDG tutors, from the beautiful woodland and incredible lanscapes of the chilterns themselves.

We will also be accompanied by Landscape Artist, Sedimentologist and Palaeontologist Emma Jude (who led our Feminist’s Guide to Dinosaurs class), who will be guiding us on drawing-hikes through some of the stunning landscapes of the Chilterns. As well as being on hand to offer her expert landscape drawing advice, Emma will also be offering her unique geological insights into how these landscapes were formed millions of years ago.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of London, with Tring station less than an hour from London Bridge, this is a Londoner’s answer to the lure of the natural world! Join us for a retreat that will reboot you, create some wonderful creative connections with your fellow forest-goers, awaken your creativity and immerse you in some beautiful surroundings, as well as challenging your drawing and perception through workshops, discussion and much more!
