Intro to Shibori dyeing
Come join us for a fun and creative workshop on the art of Shibori dyeing!
Explore the ancient art of Japanese resist dyeing . You'll create unique patterns in a premade indigo dye vat by tying, stiching, twisting, binding, folding and clamping. You'll get an overview of different traditions of resist dyeing methods from around the world to contextualised the Shibori techniques.. You'll be using cotton but there will also samples on show of cotton in different weight and a range of different materials - good to see how this changes the marks you can make. If you've got small items in natural fibres that you'd like to revitalise then bring them too!
It will be a relaxing morning playing with a range of different techniques, with every reveal of the results a suprise. There will be refreshments available and It will be an intimate group so your tutor Alison will be able to give everyone individual attention. No experience necessary - all levels are welcome! The event will take place at SILT, Unit 6 St Georges Works, Silver Street, Trowbridge, UK.
