About this event

According to an analysis conducted in 2023 by Rest Less, a digital community that advocates for people over 50, one in five working individuals over 50 in the UK are self-employed, compared to one in ten under 50s.

In 2022, out of the total self-employed workforce of 4,300,509 in the UK, 2,055,843 were aged over 50. Over the past decade, the number of self-employed people aged 50 and above has seen an 18% increase, with 1,741,996 self-employed individuals in this age group in 2012.

Advantages of Age, a social enterprise, has supported older people into employment since they piloted their first programme, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation in 2017.

Startup School for Seniors, which was launched in October 2020, has successfully run multiple programmes throughout the year. These programmes, which last either eight weeks or two weeks, offer a valuable opportunity for individuals over the age of 50 to venture into self-employment. The programme is led by experienced professionals who provide participants with the necessary tools and support to thrive in their entrepreneurial endeavours.

We invite you to join our webinar, where you will gain comprehensive insights into our funded programme specifically designed for individuals over 50 residing in London and the UK. During the webinar, you will learn about our achievements thus far, our positive impact, and how you can support individuals over 50 in your local area. Following the presentation, a question-and-answer session will address any inquiries you may have.
