Hear how you can help build your older residents' confidence & resilience and take their first steps towards becoming self-employed

About this event

One in five workers aged between 50 and 69 is now self-employed, more than any other age group, according to the Centre for Ageing Better. The pandemic has also spurred a rise in the creation of small businesses – with a 32 per cent increase in the number of new businesses registered last year, compared with 2019.

Advantages of Age have supported older people into employment since they piloted their first programme, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation in 2017. Thanks to a grant from London Community Response, we have created Startup School for Seniors, which launched on 5th October 2020 and is now delivered three times per year funded by Local Authorities, the GLA and ESFA. Our next course starts on 6th May to which we are seeking referrals.

We would welcome the opportunity to share our experience supporting those over 50 to take their first steps towards self-employment via our flagship eight-week programme. We have funding to accept referrals from those resident in the UK for 3+ years living in London, Dorset, Central Bedfordshire and Coventry and Warwickshire.

During this webinar, you'll hear details of the programme, success stories, the impact we've had to date and how you can help support those over 50 in your area. A Q&A will follow.
