About this event
Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) are an innovative sequence of movements and poses designed to activate a healing reflex mechanism in the body that is felt as shaking, vibrating, or tremoring. These neurogenic tremors naturally and organically release stress, tension and trauma that is held in our body’s muscular tissues and fascia. It feels like having a massage from the inside out!
Having three sessions together means time to get to know each other, space to explore the foundational theory and practice together, and gives a chance for you to really integrate TRE into your life.
We will meet over three Thursdays: 9, 16 and 23 October 630-830pm
in a very cosy space called Abuelita's in Hackney Downs Studios.
Why try TRE®?
TRE is fun, restorative and nourishing for our nervous systems. Whilst shaking is generally misunderstood or pathologised, they're actually a 'missing link' for recovery from stress or trauma. They give us a doorway to meeting and engaging with deeper parts of our physiology and find resolution by following our body's innate intelligence.
TRE can:
- Allow the body to release old stuck defense strategies and turn down ‘over-protective’ reflexes
- Activate the vagus nerve and regulates the nervous system
- Reduce tension from within the muscles and fascia
- Promote feelings of safety, connection and groundedness
- Improve mood, sleep, digestion, pain, and emotional regulation and relationships
Once learnt, you have this amazing practice you can continue to engage with and support you for life!
This course includes 3 x 2hr sessions which will cover:
- An introduction to Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)
- Three guided experiences of the practical TRE Process (including the exercises, shaking and integration)
- Foundational theory behind TRE, including an Introduction to Polyvagal Theory and how to apply it to support your nervous system
- Understanding physiological safety and trauma recovery
- Slowing down, grounding and cultivating interoceptive awareness
- Time for reflection, sharing and questions each session
- Home practice suggestions between sessions to deepen your understanding and confidence with TRE
- Follow up resources (and encouragement!) on how to continue at home
Advisory Info
All participants must be over 18 years old.
All levels are welcome, from regular shakers to those completely new to TRE. We will be learning a set of 7 simple exercises that are designed to gently fatigue and stretch big muscle groups so we can reconnect to the tremor reflex.
A group class is not recommended for anyone with severe trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, burnout and serious health conditions or those who find it very challenging to self-regulate (unable to calm down when emotionally distressed). It is recommended to initially work in private sessions.
This group is not suitable if you are currently pregnant. If you have had a recent operation, surgery or experienced a serious injury, it is best to allow yourself a minimum of 3 or more months to recover before doing TRE.
