Do I need to bring supplies?

No! In this class all supplies will be provided so we all can be on the same page. This includes watercolours, paper, and drawing supplies.

I have absolutely no painting or drawing experience. Is this class appropriate for me?

Yes absolutely! This class is designed to introduce you to the medium from the very ground up--no experience required

I'm an artist but want to learn more about watercolours--is this class suitable for me?

Yes as well! This class will give self-taught artists an academic background for different methods of using the techniques--and with the exercises you can take them as far as you want!

Where's the nearest Tube?

The class is being held directly in Central London, in the Westminster Quaker Meeting House. The nearest station is Leicester Square, which is just two minutes away.

I want to attend class but need to leave early. Can you help?

Yes of course--you'll all be given video links to the exercises we do in class so you can review every technique in your own time afterwards.

Discover the magic of watercolours! Join our friendly watercolour class for all skill levels with all materials provided!

Join us for an immersive beginners' watercolour class, where you can discover the beauty of this medium in just 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon. Our expert tutor Ann Mackowski, featured on Landscape Artist of the Year and an exhibitor with the prestigious Royal Watercolour Society, will guide you through techniques and provide all necessary materials. Unleash your creativity and learn from the best in this intensive and inspiring art experience. Joined us before? You won't be bored! All demonstration exercises are new, and a great way to expand your technical abilities!

We'll start with simple exercises designed to get even the most novice of art-makers started, and build up to more involved techniques with live demonstrations. In the middle there will be a tea break with refreshments and a chance to get to know your fellow classmates.

As the class progresses, you'll have the opportunity to create a complete landscape painting, which you will proudly take home. Additionally, we offer access to online study resources, including video tutorials, allowing you to review and reinforce what we cover in class. Just bring yourself - all materials are provided.

Intro to Medium

Brief intro to watercolours as a medium, including difference between paper and paint types. Don't worry, we'll get painting straight away!

2:05 PM - 3:00 PM

Intro to Brush and Water Techniques

Learn how to mix watercolours for painting and a variety of different water and brush techniques including graduated and variegated washes, "dropping in", wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques, spattering, and using a resist (don't worry--this all sounds much more complicated than it is!). Plus, we'll be making many of these exercises in card format so you can start your holiday card collection!

3:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Mixing Colour and Choosing a Palette

Now we'll enter the exciting world of colour! Learn how to create life-like colours that are anything but straight-out-of the bottle. In this exercise we'll be doing colour matching, and learning how to choose a palette.
