About this event

Beginners’ woodworking courses in Somerset UK – Spend a day learning to craft your own artisan wooden picture frame or mirror with Marc Wood in our rural workshop, as he answers your joinery questions along the way.

Our full day woodworking course for adults (over 18 years) will teach you how to craft your own wooden picture frame or mirror in the traditional way, using hand tools.

Over the course of 6 hours Marc will tutor you in different joinery and carpentry techniques to safely construct your own piece, based on our best loved designs, for you to take home.

With a maximum of 6 people per session you will each receive personalised tuition from Marc throughout the day as you learn about various hand tools, different wood types and the inspiration behind Marc’s popular furniture designs.

A fabulous lunch, cakes and cookies from the renowned Sue Foreman’s Cook House and tea / coffee is included (Veggie, Vegan & Gluten Free options)

Frequently asked questions

How long is the day course?

Running from 10 am until 5 pm, this introductory woodworking experience day will be 6 hours of tuition with 2 x 15 minute tea breaks and 30 minutes for lunch (7 hours in total)

Where can I park my car?

There is free car parking next to the workshop (please be aware of uneven ground)

Do I need any safety equipment?

Safety equipment is provided, and you are advised to wear sturdy footwear and clothes that you don’t mind getting dust on (and possibly the odd Danish Oil drip too!)

Is there any disabled access?

Please accept our sincere apologies as disability access requirements are limited, with uneven ground and stepped entrances (please contact us before booking and we can discuss our suitability for your needs)

Where is the course taking place?

At Shippens, Flaxdrayton Farm, TA13 5LR – this lovely hive of creativity and community is set around a courtyard of 19th Century farm buildings and is also home to several designer-makers involved with Somerset Arts Week and Open Studios (we will be taking part in 2024!)

What is your cancellation policy?

We will retain 20% of the price paid (£50.00) for a full cancellation or we can offer a rebooking for a future date, as long as we are informed up to 2 weeks before the course date.
