About this event
This session is an introduction to the engaging craft of spoon carving. Using the straight knife and hook knife, Dave will show you the safe knife carving techniques while you carve your own spoony spatula from a prepared blank.
The workshop is aimed at beginners and is suitable for anyone over the age of 16. All tools and materials you will need are provided. "
Workshop duration is 90mins and will be held in The Orchard at Fangfoss Hall.
Dave runs his carving business, Woodwyrm, from York. Having been an avid wood carver for many years and turned his hobby into a business 7 years ago. A professional modelmaker by trade, with over 20 years’ experience building a variety of architectural models, Dave took up carving as a contrast to the day job.
He carves a variety of items but loves carving spoons! Having been introduced to spoon carving 16 years ago, he became addicted to it. All his wood is sourced locally and carved fresh or ‘green’ which is easier to carve.
Please note: This workshop will be held outside. Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day. The workshop will be held on grass and the ground in The Orchard may be slightly uneven in places. If you have any questions about accessability, please get in touch.
Parking for Fangfest Arts Festival is located at St Martin's School and the workshop will be held in The Orchard at Fangfoss Hall, a short walk from the car park. Follow the signs from the car park to the main event and The Orchard is through the gate way, behind the church yard.
