COVID-19 and the approach to managing the disease has exacerbated existing health inequalities (HI) and created greater divisions in society. While equality is at the core of NHS principles, patients and communities have been impacted differently by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The HI theme will delve into the issues to help members and stakeholders address the geographic, socio-economic and socio-demographic inequalities in health cast into the spotlight by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of our NHS Reset campaign, we will be highlighting these inequalities, exploring the issues, concerns and challenges that health and care leaders have, and together encourage our leaders to think about what will be needed to move forward.

This webinar aims to address the following areas:

  • What are health inequalities/inequities? This will include a description of the various definitions, including by The King’s Fund, the Marmot reviews and the NHSEI descriptions as part of the NHS Long Term Plan
  • What evidence do we have about the impact of COVID-19 on health inequalities now and in the medium/long term? This will include the disproportionate impact on BME communities and the findings from the Public Health England (PHE) reviews
  • Hear from members about their experiences in their settings about health inequalities

Speakers will include:

  • Lord Victor Adebowale, Chair, NHS Confederation
  • David Buck, Senior Fellow, Public Health and Inequalities, The King's Fund
  • Danielle Oum, chair of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and co-chair of NHS Confederation's BME Leadership Network
  • Rachel O'Connor, Assistant Chief Executive of the STP, NHS Birmingham and Solihull CCG
  • Rob Webster, Executive of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Lead Chief Executive West Yorkshire and Harrogate ICS

This webinar will take place on MS Teams. Please register to ensure you receive the calendar invitation with the joining link.
