About this event
Temperance calling: "Battle of the Bards"
We were xcited to be hosting this new competition. Twelve local acoustic artists battled to win the first prize - an opportunity to perform a headline slot at Temperance.
Six artists made it to the final but there could only be one winner. Aged just 13, Bradley (with Aus Booth) won by a landslide. Everyone was excellent but credit to our runners-up too - Taylor-Louise and Andrew Higgins. Now it is their turn for a lap of honour....
Bradley will be headlining this with Andrew and Taylor-Louise supporting. And there may well be some collaborations too. Who knows?
Three sets with intervals in between for drinks and air.
Bradley (With Aus Booth)
Bradley is just 13 years old. He joined a local musical theatre group two years ago at the age of 11, after a friend spotted that he could sing during a school production and that’s where his singing, dancing and acting began.
He has performed locally in Seussical the musical, Kinky boots, Sound of Music, Les Miserables, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and most recently, in Matilda.
He primarily sings musical theatre songs, so singing different songs, with an acoustic guitar rather than a backing track and having to write his own song, has somewhat challenged him and has certainly brought him out of his comfort zone...
Bradley first met Aus Booth when he sang at one of Aus’ open mic sessions. From day one, Aus has been a major support to Bradley, praising him, encouraging him and generally being a legend in the world of music. Bradley and Aus have only ever performed one song together at the open mic and have literally performed this set together five times in our living room.Bradley is not a trained musician, he has never had a singing lesson and is completely self taught - his singing is born from his love and passion for music and his enthusiasm and desire to please an audience.
Taylor-Louise
Singer-songwriter, musician, performer and vocal coach Taylor-Louise began playing guitar and writing songs from just 12 years old, and soon released her debut EP - Jealous Eyes - with 14 Records. Alongside realising her passion for musical theatre and dance, the years that followed saw her headline stages, playing festivals such as Godiva and headlining the acoustic stage, making guest appearances on radio and supporting the likes of Wildwood Kin on tour.
Taylor has received artist of the month by BBC Introducing C&W, had been the longest running artist to remain in the local charts, released a total of 4 EPs, performing sold-out launch shows as well as being crowned Miss Leamington Spa in 2020 for her passion toward helping others, inspiring people and bringing awareness to their potential by setting example. This becoming the founder of Ascension Vocals.
With over fifteen experiences as a performer, recording-artist and event host, Taylor has been working alongside bands, and being hired for session work with various groups such as the likes of the Crystal Gospel choir.
If that's not enough...
I’m a vocologist and design anatomical illustrations and teachings for voice institutions as well!
Andrew Higgins
Andrew Higgins is a songwriter who once obsessed over musical detail—until he realised something essential: a song only reveals if its good or bad in front of an audience. His journey began a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Sparked by the sight of AC/DC’s Angus Young on stage, he decided he wanted a piece of that. Unfortunately, Andrew was both guitar-less and clueless, so he set about learning the album ‘Powerage’ by ear. Somehow that led to a body of instinctive work that’s sonically diverse and which has gained him airtime on BBC Introducing and local radio.
Whether he’s composing and recording in his home studio or performing stripped-back acoustic sets with his trusty friend “Dr. Boss,” Andrew follows the musical flow: Mr Crow, written in memory of a lifelong friend, is a reflection on mortality. Justify, his most-streamed track, is an electronic collage that features conversation with his 98 year old mum as well as the haunting vocals of his life partner—who is his inspiration, and, curiously, something of a cult hit in Mexico.
Andrew finds rhythm in motion—often composing while out running, chasing melodies and lyrics through the steady tempo of his feet on the ground. He’s not chasing fame, but if Glastonbury calls, he won’t refuse (even though he doesn’t like festivals). Having seen some amazing acts at Temperance (Jack Broadbent being his favourite) he says it’s a real honour and buzz to play there.
Doors 7pm. Start 7:15pm prompt. Three sets and maybe a bit of a jam at the end.
