Description:
This course introduces participants to the key principles and approaches for planning and delivering meaningful activities for people living with dementia. Together we will focus on understanding the impact of dementia on communication, memory, and engagement, and explore creative, person-centred ways to promote inclusion, comfort, and joy through everyday activities.

Aim:
To gain understanding and confidence in providing meaningful, dementia-friendly activities that support emotional wellbeing, cognitive stimulation, and a sense of identity for people living with dementia.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe dementia and how dementia can affect communication, memory, and engagement, and how this influences activity planning.

2. Identify key principles of dementia-friendly activity provision, including the use of reminiscence, sensory stimulation, and familiar routines.

3. Demonstrate ways to adapt activities and the environment to meet the needs and preferences of people living with dementia.

4. Reflect on how person-centred approaches and relationship-based care support wellbeing and inclusion for people living with dementia.

Please note:The training environment will need to be quiet and undisturbed.Staff will need to give the course their full attention and should not be on duty.

As an attendee of the training day you MUST have your camera on during all of the sessions, this is to verify your participation/attendance.


Certificates of attendance will only be issued to attendees who attend for the whole of the session.This course will be delivered via ZOOM and will include, presentations, discussion and reflection, case studies, videos and demonstrations. Please make sure that you are familiar with using ZOOM.
