Event description
This half-day introductory course covers the must-knows of asylum and refugee support.

About this Event

The Refugee Council uses the expertise of our delivery staff who work directly with asylum-seekers, newly recognized refugees, and those arriving through resettlement schemes, to develop training that’s relevant, up to date, and informed by best practice. We’ve delivered expert training to over 55 local authorities and a variety of charities on topics relating to asylum and refugee awareness, policy, and best practice.

Our trainers consistently receive good feedback:

“It was one of the best trainings I have been on in many years and if they could roll it out for everybody that would be great.”

“It was extremely well-presented from a training perspective, the trainer was very knowledgeable, the style of presentation was very good, it was personal and it was accessible but it was very professionally delivered and used a range of methods.”

Course Suitability

Course overview

Claiming Asylum and seeking support as a newly recognized Refugee are complex processes, and at times are tasks that can seem insurmountable. For those interested or new to working in the sector, our half-day introduction to asylum and supporting refugees covers what we consider to be the must-knows. Informed by the work of front-line staff, we walk participants through the journeys and potential experiences of clients prior to and after arrival in the UK, exploring terms and definitions, and key considerations for enabling positive employment and integration.
