Introduction to Behat (test automation) workshop
Wed 29 March 2017, 14:30 – 16:30 BST
Do you spend a lot of time executing manual tests? At the end of each sprint, do you find yourself spending hours running manual regression tests that you have run many times before? Are you a manual tester looking to gain experience in automated testing but are unsure where to start.
Brendan MacDonald - automation engineer at Cameron & Wilding and author of the open source framework that provides out-of-the-box functional testing capabilities to any Drupal installation - will provide an introduction of how Behat can be used for the Automated Testing of websites. (Note - the workshop will focus on the basic automation of any website, and will not focus on Drupal.)
This workshop assumes no prior knowledge of automated functional testing. It is ideal for beginners who want to start adding automated testing to their workflow. The workshop will start with the basics of BDD (Behaviour Driven Development) before explaining our own Behat framework and how it fits into the BDD methodology.
At the end of the workshop, you'll have an understanding of:
- BDD and the idea of 'examples'
- How to install our Behat framework
- Feature files and how to turn BDD 'examples' into Behat scenarios
- The Gherkin syntax and the text matching process that leads to automated tests
- How to execute test scenarios and view the reports
Familiarity with Git would be useful but is not mandatory.
Ideal audience - manual testers with no automation experience.
