About this Event

3 WEEK EVENING COURSE

WEDNESDAYS 22nd APRIL - 6th MAY 2020

6:00pm - 9:00pm

You’ll make a range of different books from scratch to take away with you, and gain the knowledge to keep making books at home. Bookbinding is great for creating notebooks, sketchbooks, albums or books which are art objects in themselves.

What experience do I need?

This is an introductory course for suitable for complete beginners, no previous experience is necessary. Those with an understanding of bookbinding techniques can use the sessions to refresh their skills and gain tutor advice and guidance.

What will I make?

You will make at least five different kinds of book from scratch; these will include pamphlet stitch, stab binding, a hardcover book, concertina books and hotdog books.

Who is my tutor?

Joanna Wilkinson is a practising printmaker, illustrator and bookbinder. She uses printing, collage, analogue/slow photography and sometimes even old style colouring techniques like felt tips in her work! Joanna has recently completed an MA Creative Practice at Leeds Arts University and is also a Co-operative Member of Leeds Print Workshop. She has been working with us over the last two years as a technician and tutor. She has experience in teaching a wide variety of different groups of people including children and adults.

Do I need to bring anything?

All of the tools and equipment needed to make your books will be provided, along with a standard selection of coloured and cartridge paper. If you have any paper of your own that you think would make an interesting book, please bring that along. You may also bring along any bookbinding tools that you have already to use alongside what we have in the workshop (ruler, craft knife, pencil etc.).

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Please note: Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.

By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
