About this event
Introduction to Botanical Drawing and Painting
Get ready to explore the art of botanical illustration with Camilla Stacpoole in this hands-on nature inspired workshop. Designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike, the day invites people to forage Autumn leaves, flowers and seed pods from tranquil gardens and woodlands, and transform them into lovely drawings and watercolours.
Whether you have dabbled with watercolour painting before or are a complete novice, this day will remove the “I can’t” stigma and encourage you to pick up this wonderfully peaceful and absorbing form of art.
You will learn how to observe botanical forms and sketch with clarity and expression. You will also have the chance to experiment with colour blending, washes, and layering to bring your foraged finds to life. By the end of the day you will leave with your own personal artwork to take home and enjoy.
Whether you are looking to deepen your connection to nature, develop your artistic skills, or simply enjoy a peaceful creative escape, this workshop offers a nurturing space to relax and explore.
Camilla Stacpoole, our workshop faciliator, likes to quote John Ruskin:
‘If you can paint one leaf, you can paint the world’
Camilla gained a diploma from the Inchbald School of Design in the 1980s followed by a career in interior design. Having loved drawing and painting from nature ever since she was a child she embarked on a Botanical Illustration course at the Chelsea Physic Gardens in 2005. She has subsequently applied her knowledge and skills to a wide range of art, design and crafts including various exhibitions in London and the Home Counties as well as designing tableware and wallpaper for Nina Campbell, alongside running her own design business Wild Damson.
