Event description

Description

Creative work is one of the most rewarding, but can also be one of the most difficult to know where to start when it comes to pricing your time and ensuring you get paid. By knowing how to structure your projects and paperwork (the not so interesting, but most important part of any project) you can approach every project with confidence and ensure that you are completely transparent within your client/supplier relationship.

On this course you will be provided with the essential skills to manage your projects as a professional creative practitioner. You will learn how to structure your time and discuss approaches to charging for your creativity appropriately. You will be introduced to business management steps - including :

  • How should I trade/ Types of company/trader set up

  • ‘Tax deductible? What’s that mean?’ – your business expenses

  • Structuring your time to enable quoting or estimating your fee

  • What constitutes a contract and why you must have one

  • Deposits and invoicing

  • Dealing with insurance and legal issues

  • Non payment and how to deal with it

The intention is to offer an intermediate course to follow up with a focus on sales and getting clients and orders.

NB there is a 30 minute allowance in the 1000-1430 timeframe for lunch. It is advised you bring lunch or alternatively food can be purchased from the Guildhall cafe onsite at a reasonable price.
