This will short course spread over three evenings will introduce students to the science of calculating inheritance shares according to the hanafi school of fiqh. The following topics will be covered in the three classes:

• When inheritance rules are applied

• Overview of the different shares of individuals

• Learning how to create a share table

• Walkthrough practice of working out forty of the common scenarios for share calculations

• When certain inheritors are prevented from receiving their share

Course Text: We will be using the primer on this topic authored by Shaykh Hasan al-Mashat (d.1980) one of the recent great scholars of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca who compiled this short work for his students who were studying this science for the first time.

Learning Materials: Students will be provided with a workbook with details of the forty scenarios, share tables for the practice tasks and a diagram with inheritors shares which will help them answer the questions and act as a future reference.

Pre-requisites: Students will need to have attended the Introduction to Inheritance lecture, this will be run again on Friday 1st April 2016. Please contact organiser for further information.

Do I need to be good at maths? No! you only need to know your basic times tables, thats all.

Note: The fee for this course is being kept to a minimum to cover venue and printing costs.
