Aim and Outcomes

Increase staff awareness and understanding of effective holistic care for cancer patients

On completion the delegate will be able to:

  • Discuss the role of a Healthcare Support Worker in the trust
  • Identify the 6Cs and their relevance to their practice
  • Understand individual role and responsibilities to help maintain a patients personal hygiene according to their individual needs
  • Have an awareness of the spiritual needs of patients
  • Discuss the care required when meeting the elimination needs of the patient including catheter care
  • Discuss the importance of pressure area care
  • Identify the care required when carrying out oral hygiene
  • Understand the importance of nutrition and hydration in cancer patients
  • Have an understanding of the importance of recording the patients vital signs and fluid balance
  • Be aware of the main cancer treatments that patient receive in the hospital
