Course content

The Celts left Scotland with a rich and vibrant oral tradition of mythology and stories carried from generation to generation and their mark is still left stamped on Scotland today. Join our gaelic tutor Eilidh Montgomery as we dive into these rich stories and beliefs as we travel from the Druidic era of magic and human sacrifice, to the legends of the fairies and seal people of the islands and how the gods and goddesses governed the seasons rather than make war amongst themselves as the deities of other mythologies. See how, even with the strong and lasting influence of Christianity in Scotland, the Celtic beliefs do still remain in the stories that are still told and the festivals that are steeped in Celtic legend.

In this course we will look at:

  • Introduction to Celtic mythology
  • Druids and Magic
  • Carmina Gadelica
  • The moon, The Celtic calendar and Fertility
  • Celtic Festivals
  • Irish Heroic Tales
  • Highland Folklore
  • Witches and The Arrival of Christianity

Each Thursday for 8 weeks from 14th August 2025
