Background

  • Gender stereotypes are harmful for all children and are the root cause of ongoing gendered inequalities across society.
  • Gendered attitudes are ingrained by the time a child is 10. They can limit choices such as the school subjects children identify with and the ways they behave.
  • Gender stereotypes can be unthinkingly exacerbated through a range of ways

Participants will...

  • Gain a fuller understanding of the ‘bigger picture’ of gender stereotyping and why early intervention and challenge is key.
  • Have the opportunity to recognise a range of gender stereotypes in a variety of contexts
  • Reflect on their own biases and assumptions in a supportive way
  • Understanding ways in which gender stereotypes can be disrupted and challenged in their role and wider work.
