About this event

Arts • Craft

Over this 2 day course you will get the chance to make multiple plates and experiment with different textures and shapes to create interesting compositions.

This is a beginner friendly course where you can work abstractly or from your own source material or use material provided.
At Ebor Printing studios we will be printing our plate the intaglio way using an etching press but you can also print successfully in relief so there is plenty of possibility for developing further work.

This workshop is set over two non-consecutive days please book on to both

Day 1
Saturday the 13th of September

Designing and making the plates ready to be printed

Day 2
Sunday the 21st of September

Inking up and making prints

You are welcome to bring your own ideas/sketches/drawings but it’s not a requirement!

Please don’t wear nice outfits, the ink will stain and it can be a very sticky and mesy afternoon! Please do bring your own art making apron if you have one!

Also very important to be ready for hair to be tied up and out the way and no loose/ dangaling clothing that might get trapped in the printing press! Also please wear sensible shoes, thank you 😊

It would be great if you could collect (if you have anything going spare/ lying around!) the following materials list to have ample materials for the workshops.

  • Tissue paper/ thin coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Scapels
  • Pens/ pencils / rubbers/ rulers
  • Cutting matts
  • Anything you want to use or cut out of and emboss your paper with eg, dried flowers! (must be thicker than cereal box cardboard but not too thick as it still has to go through the etching press).
  • Clean Rag (old pieces of fabric / clothing etc. this is used in various cleaning stages of the process and the more the better it can get very messy!)
  • Any sharp engraving tools (this is to make texture/ shapes in your work. This could be anything from an etching needle to a nit comb. This is to make lines / textures in your mountboard).
