Course Description
Using the latest evidence, interactive discussion & DVD material, this session aims to enable staff to communicate in a way which ensures that patients feel heard, and that they & their relatives/carers have been treated with care, compassion, dignity and respect.

- Discussion of active and compassionate listening skills
- The importance of empathy
- Patient cues and how to respond to them
- Identifying patient concerns
- Structuring a conversation

- Explore the relationship between good communication skills and compassionate care
- Recognise the attitudes and behaviours that enable patients to feel heard & respected
- Identify & discuss the skills which enable sensitive communication
