Event description
This one day course is a starting point for anybody who is interested in community organising.

About this Event

This course will help you begin to understand what community organising involves and what it looks like in the real world. You will be introduced to the foundations of community organising: listening, power and action.

Community organisers reach out and listen to people, then connect and motivate them to build their collective power. In this course, you will start to explore how people come together so that they can understand and take action on their concerns to build community and overcome social injustice.

During this course you will explore

• what community organising is

• the importance of listening to build relationships and uncover issues

• power in communities and why it matters

• how to motivate people to take action

• how to take your next steps in community organising & social action

The course lasts for 6 hours. Like all of our training, it is inspiring and interactive. It is designed so that everybody can take part, share their ideas and experiences and practice their skills.

“I loved the training. I learned a lot and cannot wait to put it into practice. The listening exercise made me reflect on how I have been listening to others and sometimes not hearing them. Also, I found the power session very interesting as I can see the how it translates into my community."

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Whitfield Valley Centre is a community venue. There is good access with a lift to the first floor where the training will be.

There is a free car park.

There are 15 places on the training. Please book. If you do not book we might not be able to let you in.

This course is run by All the Small Things CiC and funded by DCMS as part of the Community Organisers Expansion programme.

The course trainers are experienced and committed Community Organisers.

The course is approved as quality training provision by Certa and as approved CPD. All participants receive a Certificate of Participation.

Further one-day courses are available focusing on practical aspects of community organising, plus longer courses for those who want to train as fully qualified community organisers.
