About this event

Data ethics is a rapidly emerging area. Increasingly, those collecting, sharing and working with data are exploring the ethics of their practices and, in some cases, being forced to confront those ethics in the face of public criticism.

In this two-hour online course, run by our experts, you will be given an introduction to the concept of data ethics, how ethics is addressed in other domains, and how data ethics can be applied to help organisations avoid harmful impacts and increase trust in new products and services.

Who is this for?

This course is introductory and jargon-free. It is intended for anyone working in public, private and third-sector organisations who wants to become familiar with data ethics and start to bring it into their organisation.

The course will be attended by people from multiple organisations. We recognise that people may not want to discuss some of their current ethical issues in front of other organisations, therefore this workshop uses real-world examples to bring the topic to life.

What will you learn?

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Define the difference between ethics and morals
  • Recognise the relationship between ethics and law
  • Evaluate why data ethics matters
  • Identify key aspects of the data ethics canvas as a tool that helps apply data ethics to a project.

Course prerequisites

No previous knowledge of data is required. An understanding of how data is used in your organisation will help you apply what you learn and take practical action.
