DRAMATHERAPY: INTRODUCTORY COURSE

This is an accreditation course for adults 18+, professionals, non-professionals and students. There is an increasing expectation for professionals to undertake Continuing Professional Development regardless of industry sector, career level, job role and responsibilities. The CPD Certification Service helps organisations such as The AoC formalise knowledge into a structured and recognised approach to meet those expectations.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities. It enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than passive and reactive. CPD Certification Service.

CPD is for professionals to show that they are continuing to develop and learn along their career journeys, by maintaining their skills, working safely, updating their knowledge and also working effectively, ethically and legally.

This exciting one day accredited course, introduces you to the world of Dramatherapy. You will understand how this psychotherapeutic model is practised by therapists, which types of clients benefits from it, where dramatherapy is practised, and several effective dramatic techniques that dramatherapy uses including mask work, story-telling, myth-work, puppetry, spectrograms, toys, picture postcards, role-play and many, many other tools, Christian Dixon FRSA will be taking you through the different avenues in which dramatherapy can be applied. Christian is a registered and practising dramatherapist with over twenty years’ experience and is also a professional actor with companies including The Royal Shakespeare Company whom recently he completed work with in 2017 and previously worked with in 1989, major film companies including Warner Brothers and Walt Disney (which he is currently completing one major feature film due for cinematic release in 2018.


This workshop is suitable for all adult professionals, students and especially those who are interested in pursuing a possible career in the creative arts therapies. The course starts at 10.00am and finishes 4.00pm. Materials, light lunch and refreshments are also included. Please bring your own small towel or wet wipes suitable for your skin.

You will also be encouraged to explore a real-life experience in a safe and distanced way through metaphorical dramatic play, experientially, using safe, playful, dramatic games and exercises.

This course will also assist you, as a professional, student or volunteer who works with children, young people or even adults of all ages with effective ways in which to explore in a safe, non-judgemental, exploratory and creative manner your clients inner and outer worlds.

The aims of The Dramatherapy: Introductory Course are to help you to:

  • Understand what is Dramatherapy.

  • Learn how Dramatherapy is applied and practised.

  • Learn how Dramatherapy is used effectively using real-life case studies.

  • Experience several core Dramatherapy techniques.

  • Have a basic knowledge of the history of Dramatherapy.

  • Experience through dramatic ways to explore a real-life issue or problematic situations.

The course will give you an overview of theory and up-to-date research findings on the subject, along with case studies. There will be plenty of time for group discussions, reflections, Q and A’s and practical demos of coping exercises which you will have lots of opportunity in which to practise.

Our hope is that all participants will leave this course feeling confident with their basic understanding of Dramatherapy. At the end of the course, and satisfactory completion - you will receive a certificate of attendance and receive CPD points.
