Event Details

The first in a series of half-day training events aimed at those early in their careers who need an introduction or fresher around some key areas of knowledge.

We will be looking at the different types of plans and drawings that are used to convey design ideas; plans, sections, elevations, sketches, axonometrics, computer generated images. We will examine drawings that simply show the proposed development and those that place it its wider context.  We will look at how visuals are used in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.

How should we read plans and drawings? What should we particularly look out for? How are they created? What scales and levels of detail are appropriate?

There will be plenty of hands-on exercises, evaluating proposals by examining drawings but also exploring some simple techniques for getting your design ideas and recommendations across visually.

The event is aimed at planning officers, planning consultants, and other professionals who engage with design issues, but did not necessarily have a professional design training.  At the end of this session you should feel more confident reading plans and drawings and understand what additional information you might need and feel more comfortable putting pencil to paper yourself.
