Introduction to Drypoint

'Drypoint' is the ideal introduction to 'intaglio' (etched) printmaking in colour or black and white. We use inexpensive clear plastic sheets on which we scratch designs using a sharp stylus and other simple tools. This produces extremely fine lines, rich tones and textures. Drypoint is a versatile process which will appeal to anyone who enjoys line and tone drawing, or experimenting with abstract textures.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring anything special?

Please bring any sketches or drawings you think might be turned into etchings.

Do I need any particular clothing or equipment?

Printmaking can get quite inky... so please bring an apron or wear suitable clothing! Also please bring a small sketchbook or drawing paper and pencils for making notes and trial layouts.

Can I get lunch nearby?

Yes! There are several cafes and shops nearby that are open on Sundays including the excellent Wivenhoe Deli... Alternatively please bring your own lunch as we have plates, cutlery and facilities for making hot drinks.

Can I find out more before I book??

Yes of course! Please email course tutor John Wallett ( info@wivenhoeprint.works ) with any questions, or pop in any Wednesday Afternoon when we are running our Open Access sessions ( bit.ly/open--access ) to have a quick look round and get more info!
