Introduction to Etching

Dates: Wednesdays 7th – 28th August 6 – 8:30pm (4 sessions)


Course description:

Learn how to draw, print and create visual ideas by investigating the possibilities of etching. Explore combinations of line, tone and texture using a range of traditional etching techniques.

You will cover a range of printmaking skills and topics including how printmakers have used images to create original intaglio prints, develop and create experimental and finished prints using hard ground, soft ground and drypoint etchings. This course will give you the opportunity to discover and share with others the possibilities creating your own original prints, generate creative results, extend your skills and develop your own ideas. You will have the opportunity to develop new or existing printing skills further across the 4 sessions.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at beginners, however students with previous etching experience are welcome to brush up and/or develop their skills still further.

Do I need to bring anything?
All materials and equipment will be provided.
If you have any imagery you wish to use to take inspiration from feel free to bring it along.


Your Tutor

Neil is a successful practicing artist and educator who is a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, RE. He is also a member the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and the New English Art Club (NEAC). Neil is a well-qualified teacher with experience of teaching in post 16 and Adult Education. Neil currently teaches courses in London at WMC Camden College and City Lit.

Workshop and course bookings may be cancelled up to 10 working days before the scheduled start date. Our commercial workshops support the work we do as a charity, and because materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than ten working days before the workshop date.

In the event that The Art House needs to cancel a workshop, your ticket will be refunded in full.

Bookings cannot be transferred between courses however bookings can be transferred to another person in the event that you are unable to attend on the day.
