If you've ever thought you might like to try painting foxes but are not sure how to go about it, in this class we'll be focusing on techniques perfect for beginners to get you started on your journey! Cuckmere Haven nature reserve is a habitat for so many different animals, making it a perfect place to learn.
The class will be hosted in the cosy barn at the Visitors Centre & we will be drawing and painting from photo reference. However during the break or before or after the workshop, the nature reserve is just on the doorstep to have an explore.
What we'll be doing:
🖌️ Watercolour techniques
We will start by learning basic watercolour techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry, different brush strokes, colour mixing and so on.
✏️ Different positions
We'll then learn to paint the foxes from a few different angles and positions. Standing, sitting, laying etc. We will break them down into the simple shapes - circles, sausages, triangles, and then build them back together to make foxes!
🦊 Painting
Lastly we'll combine all of our techniques and create some paintings of foxes. I'll guide you throughout the process and if there's time towards the end we can add in some background elements too.

YOUR TUTOR
Hi I'm Zara who's behind Gingergreen. I started teaching watercolours in March 2023 which is exciting because its been more than a year now! Multiple times week I run beginner watercolour classes where each session we have a different theme, generally to do with nature. This year I'm looking forward to running day courses, or some courses that span over a few weeks where we can get really stuck in to a particular subject.
My background is in illustration which I studied in Bristol from 2016 - 2019. I have previously worked in a bit of editorial illustration under the name 'Zara Wilkins'.
The thing I love most about watercolours is that it is so versatile. There are so many different ways it can be used, so many effects that you can create with different levels of water, pigment, paper weights and brushes. There doesn't really seem to be an end to what you can do with it. Teaching continues to be such a fun experience and I really look forward to every class I run.
