Have you ever wanted to try game shooting but are unsure where to start? Or would you like to ensure that you’re well-prepared when you attend a shoot?
Join us on 27 November at Grimsthorpe Estate Shooting Ground, where we will teach you everything you need to know about what to expect during a days game shooting.
We will cover the following topics:
- Best practices for shooting.
- Quarry recognition.
- Proper attire: Is tweed really necessary?
- Gun safety, including how to hold and load your gun.
- Identifying which bird is yours.
- Tipping etiquette at the end of a successful day.
- Selecting the right cartridge and choke for the species.
- Do you need to change chokes between drives?
- The role of gundogs and which breeds are best suited for shooting.
- The responsibilities of beaters and gamekeepers.
After the instructional session, we will check your guns before heading out to shoot various types of sustainable ammunition at driven targets.

Important Information:
This event is intended for participants with prior shooting experience and is not suitable for complete beginners. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older. Please bring your shotgun, eye and hearing protection, a cap and certificate on the day.
Guns must be nitro-proof, with chambers of 65mm or longer, choked half or less, and must be either 12 or 20 bore.
Please remember to bring your own lunch and wear suitable outdoor clothing according to the weather conditions.
