Description

A one day practical course (worth 8 CPD hours) in which participants will focus on learning Grade 7 and Grade 8 male syllabus settings. Participants will also gain an understanding of learning activities that provide an embodied understanding of the male sections of the ballet, free movement and character sections of the syllabi.

Aims

The aims of this course are to enable you to:

  • look in depth at the philosophy of the higher grades and in particular the Grade 7 and Grade 8 male syllabi

  • gain an insight into the romantic style as embodied in the Grade 7 syllabus and selected dance styles in the Grade 8 syllabus

  • offer a chance to build on the technical, artistic and musical knowledge and understanding gained from the Grade 6 syllabus

  • study in depth technical, artistic and musical understanding for the Grade 7 and Grade 8 syllabi

  • gain an in-depth understanding of ‘performance’, both as solo and as a duet, as expected for Grade 7 and Grade 8

  • gain an understanding of the differences in expectation between male and female syllabus settings and performance 

  • reflect on the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria 

  • provide a platform to discuss, explore and develop strategies to strengthen the performance of the syllabi

  • support the creation of development exercises for students by defining requisite skills and knowledge, and 

  • be able to understand the ‘how’ of teaching the syllabi, increase knowledge of the assessment criteria, and gain insight into candidates’ response in examinations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate physically and/or through verbal explanation, an understanding of the technique and performance required in the Grade 7 and Grade 8 male syllabi (classical, free movement, and character)

  • discuss the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria of Grade 7 and Grade 8, and

  • support students to develop the necessary strength and understanding to achieve the requirements of the assessment criteria in the examination.
