Introduction to Horse Logging
Join us at Treborth Botanic Garden for a unique event where you can learn all about the fascinating world of horse logging with Barabara Haddrill of Carnog Working Horses. www.carnog.co.uk
Discover the history, techniques, and benefits of using horses for sustainable forestry practices. This hands-on experience will give you a new perspective on the relationship between humans, horses, and the environment.
Course details:
Through the course we will introduce you to the horses and their harness, teaching you how to select and correctly fit it.
We will then slowly teach you to 'drive' the horse using long reins and voice commands. Starting off in the field and then progressing up to work in the tight spaces in the woodland.
We will show you an area of woodland we have been working in and then explain all the considerations that need to be made to do the job safely and efficiently using horses.
We will show you lots of different ways in which we use the horses, singles and as a pair and then work together to use them in various ways within the woodland.
This is a free event, funded by the The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) scheme. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Welsh Government.
