Introduction to Integrative Breathing Therapy (IBT) MARM and Breathing Basics Protocol
What Makes This Course Unique?
This course will provide practical hands-on experience of the Manual Assessment of Respiratory Motion (MARM) and instruction for its use as a tool for assessment. They will also learn how to use it as a part of functional breathing training. This course will also teach participants how to approach breathing training to improve interoceptive accuracy, relaxation and breathing flexibility
Course Aims:
After this course students will be able to
- Understand the assumptions of the MARM applied to model of functional breathing
- Perform the MARM with skill and confidence using the 5 step and 6 step protocols
- Record palpatory findings for simplified and original MARM
- Calculate variables of simplified and original MARM
- Interpret findings for treatment planning
- Learn to integrate the MARM with direct and indirect breathing techniques
- Understand how to do breathing training that increases the patient's ability to relax, breath more flexibly and gain interoceptive accuracy, relaxation and breathing flexibility
Who Should Attend:
Health care professionals who have an interest in breathing pattern disorders, dysfunctional breathing and breathing retraining.
This may include medical practitioners, allied health practitioners (e.g physiotherapists, speech and language pathologists, osteopaths, nurses)
Why Attend?
Participants will have the opportunity to practice and hone their skills with the assistance of Rosalba Courtney who has performed validation studies with the MARM and physiotherapists (Lizzie Grillo, Fiona Schreuder) who have trained with Rosalba and gained experience with the theoretical and practical aspects MARM and the style of breathing techniques being taught in this course.
