Event description
From tent mines to galleries, oak apples to spangles, discover more about leaf miners and galls.

About this Event

The morning will be indoors consisting of a presentation to introduce leaf miners and plant galls. The biology of these small and relatively little-studied yet fascinating organisms will be presented and hints given as to their identification and the ecological niches in which they may be found.

After lunch we will go out to study live material in the field, around the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve site where it is anticipated many examples of leaf mines and galls will be found, enabling course participants to practise their newly-found identification skills and to appreciate the subtle beauty of this branch of “micro-nature”!

By the end of the day it is expected that you will:

  • Be able to identify some plant galls and leaf miners and where they can be found
  • Have an understanding of the biology of the organisms involved

Led by Keith Palmer, Entomologist

NB Sevenoaks visitor centre will be open 10am- 5pm; café facilities are only available at this time.
