About this Event

5 WEEK EVENING COURSE

THURSDAYS 30th APRIL - 28th MAY 2020

6:30-9:00pm

Your tutor will begin by demonstrating how to set type and use our various different pieces of specialist equipment. You’ll learn how to print using our Line-O-Scribe Galley Press and our vintage Albion Press. Throughout the course you’ll also learn some letterpress history and specialised vocabulary.

As the course progresses you will have the opportunity to set and print your own type, starting with the basics and working towards layered compositions in multiple colours.

What experience do I need?

This course is suitable for complete beginners in Letterpress processes. Those with some previous printmaking experience may also attend to gain some knowledge of another process and gain ideas for future projects.

What will I make?

You’ll come away with at least 3 different designs, printed in multiple editions onto paper, as well as some demonstration pieces. We’ll also encourage a print exchange between participants, so students will be able to take home a selection of others’ work as part of a workshop portfolio.

Who is my tutor?

Susie Rumsby is a Printmaking Instructor at Leeds Arts University, where she introduces students to screen print, etching, linocut, monoprint and bookbinding. Before coming to teach art in Leeds, Susie studied printmaking in Portland, Oregon, where she also worked as a master printer’s apprentice, an artists’ assistant, and at Portland Art Museum helping to put on shows of prints and drawings. Susie is a founding committee member of Leeds Print Workshop, and believes in making the fun of printmaking open to as many people as possible.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided throughout the course.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will issue a refund if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.

By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
