1 hour presentation, introduction to lime, main uses, types of lime, matching mortars and additional information on sands and mixes for mortars.

The afternoon session will cover preparation, mix choice, application, finishing joints, aftercare and curing.

Join us in an introductory one day course in making and using lime mortars, suitable for contractors, those with existing transferable skills and hands-on homeowners. During this practical hands on training course in our purpose built teaching area, upgrade your skills and learn more about lime mortars.

The day will include:

  • an overview of the history of lime
  • where to use different mixes, what sands to use and how to mix them
  • guidance on matching and identifying old lime mortars
  • techniques for background preparation, application, aftercare and curing
  • how to re-point different types of brick and stone

Taught by Geraint Edwards BA Hons. MSc experienced in all types of heritage and conservation stone and brick masonry.

Tools and materials will be provided.

Light lunch will be provided.

Will I be able to park on site?

Yes, as you drive down the lane into the site, parking is available immediately in front of you or along the conifer line on the left. Please be mindful there will be multiple cars and vans to park.

What do I need to bring with me?

Appropriate clothing, safety boots and hi-vis are mandatory,(a rain jacket is always useful!).
