Event description

Description

In this one-day adult workshop James Green will introduce you to the tools used for lino printing, before showing you how to cut the lino and how to print from your completed plate. At the end of the workshop you will take away a completed lino plate, several test prints and a ready-to-frame final display print. All linocut tools, inks, printing equipment and paper are provided, and no experience is necessary. The size of the print you'll be creating is 10x15cm, and you'll be creating a one-colour linocut print. This workshop is suitable for age 16+.

James Green is an experienced artist/printmaker who has been working in the medium for around 16 years now. As well as his own personal work, he teaches workshops, produces commissions, and writes about linocut printing for various magazines. He also took part in Sky Arts 'Portrait' and 'Landscape Artist Of The Year' TV shows, reaching the semi-finals in the latter.

Preparation info
James will provide all ink, tools and paper, but participants need to think about an image to turn into a linocut before the day. The piece of lino you'll be working on is around 15x10cm. Your image will need to fit into a piece of lino 15x10cm. A print-out to size would be ideal, with one also flipped (like a mirror image) too. You may also want to trace your chosen image onto a piece of heavy-duty tracing paper (with a soft pencil) as this will save time doing so on the day, but this isn't essential. Choose a subject that isn't too intricate, as linocut is not really suitable for tiny details. The ink on your prints will not be totally dry by the end of the workshop. The artist will bring some envelopes to help protect them, but you'll need to take care with them in-transit to avoid any smudging.
