For optimal focus and lightness during meditation or breath-work, it's best to have an empty stomach. Aim to avoid eating for 4 hours beforehand. If needed, a light snack can be taken at least 2.5 hours before the session. Beverages no later than 1.5 hours prior. You may sip on water.
