Event description

Description

Our Training is funded by Tameside Public Health and is FREE for anyone working with residents of Tameside (either paid or as a volunteer).

Motivational interviewing is a method that helps people resolve ambivalence/mixed feelings to find the internal motivation they need to change their behaviour. It is a practical, empathetic and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) uses a guiding style to engage with patients/clients in order to explore their own motivations for change and giving the client/patient autonomy in behaviour change.

The practitioner’s style is very important to the MI approach and this training aims to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to apply MI in practice.

The training will cover -

  • What is MI?
  • Principles and Skills of MI
  • Overcoming Resistance
  • Evoking and Recognising Change Talk
  • Tools to support behaviour change

Refreshments are provided but not lunch.

All attendees will be asked to provide feedback on the day and 4-6 weeks after the event.

A certificate of attendance will be issued on completion.
