Introduction to Natural Tanning
Sat 8 April 2017, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
A hands on workshop in which we’ll be tanning the hides of our 4 young billy goats. Together, 8 of us will be completing the full process of tanning ½ a hide with fur-on to take home.
Learn skills in natural tanning, preserving the hide with fur on using traditional methods and natural ingredients (as much as possible from the goats themselves, where laws permit). Expert tanner Scott Baine will take us through the methods and enlighten us with a wealth of information on traditional techniques, along with inspiration of what to make with your hide when you are done.
This is a fun day suitable for anyone over 12 years old. By the end of the day you'll have the skills to tan your own hides, and knowledge of how to source them.
This project is run as part of Street Goat’s commitment to use every part of our animals, in full appreciation and honour of the relationship between these goats and ourselves.
We’ll be outside all day long so dress appropriately.
Light lunch included but bring something to share.
In an effort to make this course accessible costs are based on a sliding scale.
