Spend the day with artist Gemma Barnett and go home with a floral arrangement paper cut artwork and the skills to keep developing your paper cutting.


Morning

A short introduction to Gemma's art practice followed by a mark making excerise to help you get to grips with using a scalpel and blade.

You will then have a go at producing two simple pieces designed by Gemma that put your new scalpel skills into practice.

Afternoon

You will move on to have a go at cutting a more intricate plant themed piece designed by Gemma which you will fix to mountboard once complete allowing for easy framing at home.


This workshop is aimed at beginners.

All materials are provided, although bringing along an A4 folder for transporting your work is advised.

Artist bio:

Gemma Barnett is a multidisciplinary artist who produces specialist greetings cards and art prints. Her works often depict bold floral arrangements positioned in detailed ceramic pots, each design is carefully created by hand using paper cutting, collage and printmaking techniques. She is heavily influenced by artists such as Vanessa Bell whose expressive decorative style has left a huge mark.

Gemma studied BA (Hons) Interdiscipliary Art & Design at Leeds Art of Collage graduating in 2014. Her cards and prints can be found stocked in independent shops and galleries in the UK.

She works from her home studio in Meanwood, Leeds.

Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture.

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.


If we need to cancel the course for any reason your ticket will be fully refunded.
