Session Overview

Neurodiversity is a term that celebrates the unique differences in the human brain and encourages us to recognise the strengths of those who perceive and process information differently.

This course shines a light on Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), an increasingly recognised autism profile. PDA describes individuals who go to great lengths to avoid everyday demands, often relying on sophisticated social strategies. In this online event, rooted in current research, we'll unravel the nuances of PDA, clarify misunderstandings, and equip you with actionable strategies to support those with a PDA profile.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

o Explain how the PDA profile developed and its significance.

o Identify the distinct traits of PDA and related terminology.

o Differentiate between demand avoidance and defiance in the context of PDA.

o Define and recognise the concepts of 'demands' and 'social strategies' related to PDA.

o Recognise and understand masking behaviours in PDA individuals.

o Implement practical approaches and strategies to effectively support individuals with a PDA profile.

This session is delivered by Anne Love who is an approved training provider of the PDA Society.
