Who is this for?

This online training workshop has been designed for researchers who are new to or have some experience with patient and public involvement (PPI).

What is the session about?

This interactive online training will give you an understanding of the current landscape of involving patients and the public in health and social care research as well as providing practical advice for developing your PPI approach. The session has been co-developed and will be co-facilitated with public contributors and researchers to give a unique insight of involving patients and the wider public in research.

By the end of this workshop, you will have explored:

Why do we do PPI in research?

Who do we involve? Identifying public contributors

When do we involve public contributors in research?

How do we involve: Appreciating the different PPI activities and approaches

Have an awareness of some of the challenges that can arise when doing PPI work and identify ways to overcome them

The session will be co-delivered by Dr Rebecca Morris (a social scientist whose research focuses on the social and digital processes of care) with public contributors who are members of PRIMER (Primary Care Research in Manchester Engagement Resource) within the Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research at the University of Manchester. PRIMER is a diverse group of patients, carers and members of the public with an interest in primary care research which has been established for over 16 years working in partnership with academics from all the over UK. The members have a wealth of knowledge and experience working with researchers, health care professionals, and policy makers from a range of different clinical and academic areas and types of projects through to members of national funding panels.
