Presenters
This workshop will be delivered by Andy Gibson, Kathy Kantor, Eva Roberts and Adele Webb
- Andy Gibson is Associate Professor in Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and has a social sciences background. His research interests focus on public involvement in health research. He is the academic co-lead for People in Health West of England, a University of the West of England (UWE)-led collaborative initiative on PPI in health research, and is PPI lead for: National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West, NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Behavioural Science and Evaluation, and Bristol Health Partners. He also leads the UWE patient and public involvement team based in the Department of Health and Social Sciences.
- Kathy Kantor is a retired Nurse who is a member of Bristol Older People’s Forum and the NIHR Clinical Research Facility's Public Advisory Group. She seeks to ensure that women’s rights and issues are protected and addressed.
- Eva Roberts is the Patient and Public Involvement Facilitator for the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and the NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and supports patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in research for both organisations. She also co-runs Bristol’s Gen R Young People’s Advisory group (YPAG). Eva is passionate about involving and engaging underserved groups and communities in research.
- Adele Webb is a public contributor with the NIHR ARC West who has been advising researchers and healthcare professionals on a range of topics (including genomics, public health, cancer, and paramedics in general practice) since 2014. Adele's journey into the PPI sphere came about as a result of caring for critically ill family members; instead of pursuing complaints, she offered her services to help make a difference. This is a role she has continued to fulfil through sharing of her lived experience. Experience has taught her that anyone can play a part in research and make a positive difference in people's lives.
