This intermediate course will take you step by step through the pattern cutting process to create a pattern to fit your own measurements

About this event

The course will be run over 2 consecutive Saturdays at the Make Baltic studio in the Baltic Triangle 11.30am-2pm.

Learn how to take measurements correctly and record your own body measurements

Use these measurements to create a skirt block that will fit you perfectly

You skirt block is made on manilla card which can be used over and over again as a template to make different styles of skirt We will show you how to trace around your block onto dot and cross paper to make a master pattern. The master pattern can be manipulated to make an array of different styles while still maintaining a perfect fit for your body.

You can bring your design along and we will show you how you can make your photo or drawing into a pattern.

The maximum amount of people on any class is 4 to ensure everyone get lots of attention.

There will be a separate option of a supported sewing group if you need any help on sewing your skirt up

This intermediate course is suitable for people who have the basics of using a sewing machine but would like to learn a new skill.

If you have attended any "Beginner Sewing" classes at Make, you will be able to take this course.

Please get in touch if you have any questions around experience level required

All equipment is provided including sewing machine, graders, dot and cross paper, rulers pencils ect. If you would prefer yo bring your own working machine, you are very welcome

Fabric and zips will be available to buy or students can bring their own


		Introduction to Pattern Cutting image

In this class students will learn:

- the methods for drafting a skirt pattern to their own body measurements.

- how to adapt the pattern in length and style choosing between:

* mini, knee length or midi

* flared, A-line, pencil or Peg

- how to add embellishments such as a, flounce or ruffle

- how to cut and assemble the skirt pieces to obtain a professional finished and beautifully fitting bespoke skirt that they will be proud to wear

Week 1

You will be given full instruction and support in:-

Taking and using personal measurements and use them to draft a made to measure pattern for a skirt

Adapt you pattern according to your design. ( Alter length, add flounce, pencil, A-line, pencil or peg)

Using graders to add seam allowances

Cutting out pattern pieces.

Using your own pattern to cut your pattern pieces out of fabric

Week 2

You will be given full instruction and support in:-

Assembling pattern pieces

Sewing darts and side seams

Sewing a perfect lapped zip

Doing alterations for a perfect fit

Adding facing or waistband

Finishing with a handsewn hem

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Any child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we operate a no under 10 policy.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is free on street parking outside the studio on-street parking free after 6pm.

Public transport links are nearby, and the venue is easily accessible on foot from Liverpool City Centre.

How accessible is the venue?

The workshop is located on the ground floor of 16F Jordan Street, our space inside the Baltic Creative. It is a fully accessible venue.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

If you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let the organiser know if you need to do this. Alternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 14 days before the event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

A register will be taken at the workshop, it isn't necessary to print your ticket.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

Refunds will be offered in the event of the class being cancelled - in this instance we will give as much notice as possible, usually at least 5 days, and offer alternative dates if appropriate. This class does have a minimum requirement of ticket sales to proceed, so there is a possibility of it being cancelled, but we will contact you five days before if this is the case.

If for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 14 days before the workshop. After this date we will only offer a refund if we able to fill your space.

*Refunds will be given minus Eventbrite fees, unless Make CIC cancel the class, in which case a full refund will be given*

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Please bring along a print out of your ticket if the registration does not match the attendee, or contact hello@makeliverpool.com to have them change the ticket so it contains your name.

What can I bring into the event?

Wearing comfortable clothing, all materials will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own machine, fabric and zips if you prefer, but it is not necessary.

I have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been told to self isolate after being in contact with someone with COVID-19 can I get a refund?

We can refund your ticket or transfer your ticket to a future class/workshop if you let us know 7 or more days prior to the class or workshop.

We can refund your ticket up to 5 days before the event if you can provide evidence of a positive test result or instructions to self isolate if we manage to re-sell the ticket. We will do our best to do so, but cannot guarantee a refund.

We cannot refund your ticket in the 3 days prior to the event. You are welcome to pass your ticket on to a friend or family member but please let us know who the new ticket holder is in advance.
